Harvesters Community Food Network is a regional food bank serving a 26-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas, providing food and related household products to more than 620 not-for-profit agencies.
Harvesters is well-known to many as the agency that has blue donation barrels in grocery store entrances all around the area it serves. But it has a business problem that most do not know about: While material donations are nice, Harvesters can make a dollar go farther than any shopper could ever hope to do.
And, it was hard for anyone to find out about this online. The Harvesters site sprawled across hundreds of pages with little to no defined hierarchy. Additionally, Harvesters had a virtual food drive application in use for years, but it too was hard to find and was Flash-based, making mobile usage impossible.
The solution was two-fold: Bring order to the Harvesters website and make it easy to give regardless of the device.
After many months of close collaboration, the new Harvesters website featured strong information architecture and clear pathways to giving food, time, money or advocacy.
